Taylor Swift couldn’t contain her laughter after hearing about Jason Kelce’s unexpected clothing issue during his Monday Night Football debut.
On the latest episode of New Heights, the podcast he co-hosts with his brother Travis Kelce, Jason revealed that he had made a last-minute purchase at a shopping mall before his big appearance. The reason? He had accidentally left his travel bag in his car and had no shirt to wear for the broadcast. His brother, Travis, 34, who was watching the game with his girlfriend, Taylor Swift, explained that they both found the situation hilarious.
As the San Francisco 49ers faced off against the New York Jets on September 9, Scott Van Pelt, who was anchoring the coverage, told the audience that Jason was “wearing a shirt he got at the mall because he left his travel bag in the truck.” Jason responded on air with a light-hearted comment, “It fits my belly now. I’ve lost some weight, but my chest still struggles.”
Travis recounted on the September 11 episode of their podcast, “Taylor and I were watching and just dying laughing. It was the perfect introduction to what viewers could expect over the next 18 weeks.”
Following the broadcast, ESPN shared a clip of the amusing exchange between Jason and Van Pelt on social media, which quickly gathered attention. Travis chimed in with a playful remark under the post, saying, “Surprised he even bought a new shirt and didn’t just go shirtless.” He was referring to a memorable moment when Jason, a retired Philadelphia Eagles centre, had cheered for the Kansas City Chiefs without a shirt during a playoff game earlier this year.
Travis brought up the Instagram comment during their podcast conversation, to which Jason, 36, added, “I mean, Pat McAfee’s done a few of these things shirtless. It feels like anything goes in broadcasting now.”
Jason went on to admit that despite his calm exterior, he was incredibly nervous for his broadcasting debut. “It’s like anything you do for the first time,” he explained. “I didn’t feel ready at all. I was very nervous, unsure of what to expect.”
However, Jason reassured fans that things fell into place quickly. “Then you realise you were prepared after all. ESPN did an incredible job setting everything up. I was lucky to have three other experienced guys on set with me who made it easier.”
Jason has become a notable personality off the field, drawing attention for his charismatic appearances. During one segment, he proudly displayed several friendship bracelets, sparking further conversation. He’s also been vocal about his love for Taylor Swift’s music, even sharing that his favourite track is “I Can Do It with a Broken Heart.”
Jason humorously referenced a lyric from the song during an interview on The Pivot Podcast, explaining how his three-year-old daughter, Ellie, often repeats one line in particular. “There’s a bit that goes, ‘I’m a real tough kid. I can handle my stuff,’ and now Ellie says it all the time. She knows it makes me laugh every time she does.”
The Kelce brothers’ dynamic continues to entertain fans, and it seems Taylor Swift is no exception to their charm and humour.
